                    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is a sober living home?

A sober living home is a structured, substance-free residence for individuals recovering from drug or alcohol addiction. It provides a safe, supportive environment where residents can continue building recovery skills while transitioning back into independent living.

We allow residents to work and participate in outpatient treatment while living in a drug- and alcohol-free environment.

Who is eligible for admission?

Eligibility requirements may vary; however, most sober living homes require that applicants:

  • Have completed detoxification or a residential treatment program

  • Demonstrate a commitment to sobriety

  • Agree to comply with all house rules and policies

  • Participate in ongoing recovery activities

Admission may be contingent upon an interview and verification of sobriety.

How long can someone stay?

There is usually no strict time limit. Length of stay varies based on individual needs. Many residents stay between 10 to 15 months, but some remain longer to strengthen their recovery foundation.

Are residents subject to drug testing?

Yes. To ensure accountability and preserve a safe recovery environment, residents are subject to random and/or scheduled drug and alcohol testing.

What rules and expectations must residents follow?

To maintain a safe and structured environment, residents are required to adhere to established house guidelines, which typically include:

  • Strict prohibition of drugs and alcohol

  • Random drug and alcohol screening

  • Observance of curfews

  • Attendance at house meetings

  • Participation in recovery support meetings (e.g., AA, NA, or equivalent programs)

  • Completion of assigned household responsibilities

  • Respectful conduct toward staff and fellow residents

Compliance with these rules is essential to maintaining residency.

What support is provided?

Support may include:

  • Peer accountability

  • House managers or recovery coaches

  • Structured routines

  • Life skills development

  • Employment assistance

  • Financial responsibility guidance

What occurs if a resident relapses?

Policies regarding relapse vary by residence. Depending on the circumstances, a relapse may result in discharge from the home or referral to a higher level of care. The primary priority is maintaining the safety and well-being of all residents.
